Saving, sharing, exporting
Your work is kept
Section titled “Your work is kept”PhotonLab stores the current scene and your display settings in the browser. Close the tab and come back later, and it is still there. Nothing leaves your computer.
Every edit can be undone with Ctrl Z and redone with Ctrl Shift Z. Dragging a source or scrubbing a value counts as one step, not a hundred. The history holds the last 120 changes.
Scene files
Section titled “Scene files”File → Save scene file (Ctrl S) downloads a small JSON file with the geometry, sources, probes, custom materials and settings. Open scene file loads one back. The format is plain and documented in the source (web/src/scene/types.ts), so scenes can also be generated by a script.
Share links
Section titled “Share links”File → Copy share link compresses the scene into the address itself. Anyone who opens the link gets the same scene; there is no server involved and nothing is uploaded. Scenes with long freehand strokes can get too large for a link; the app tells you, and a file is the way to go.
Files and links from other people are checked before they are loaded: unknown fields are dropped and out-of-range numbers are clamped, so a damaged or hostile file cannot break the app.
Images and video
Section titled “Images and video”- Save image (PNG) saves the field view at the canvas resolution, without the overlay markers.
- Record video captures the canvas until you choose Stop recording, then downloads a WebM (or MP4 on Safari). Pause the simulation before you start if you want a clean first frame.
